Crossing the Wakhan river in Bozoi Gumbaz, near the source of the Amu Darya, also known as the Oxus. Most of the time we ford river on foot – here one of the rare bridge and one of our donkey hated it, took us 20 minutes to get him over. Donkey work is hard work, you often have to scream to get the donkey going, the load slides on the side etc . On the way from Aqbelis pass to Baiqara, a Wakhi high pasture. Guiding and photographing Paul Salopek while trekking with 2 donkeys across the "Roof of the World", through the Afghan Pamir and Hindukush mountains, into Pakistan and the Karakoram mountains of the Greater Western Himalaya.
