Night shots of the Tower of Silence, on teh edge of Yazd. It is a circular, raised structure built by Zoroastrians for excarnation – that is, for dead bodies to be exposed to carrion birds, usually vultures.
Surrounded by desert, the city of Yazd is famous for its architecure, its wind towers and its traditional zoroastrian community of fire worshippers.
