  • Kyrgyz herders adore their smartphones, which they acquire by bartering and keep charged with solar panels. The gadgets, which first appeared in the Afghan Pamir in 2010, are useless for communication (cellular service doesn't reach the isolated plateau) so they're used to play music and take photos. Phones, like all imported goods in the Pamir, are brought on the back of yaks or horses...

By way of highlighting aspects of Turkish lifestyle, they have an increasing geopolitical impact on the region..In Saudi Arabia, Gumus's final episode (a popular Turkish melodrama) attracted a record 85 million Arab viewers when it aired in Aug. 30 2011.

  • Ironic... a house interior from one of the rare inhabitants, in Moynaq town, former fishing port on the Aral Sea, now 180km from shore. .Since 1960's, The Aral Sea has been drained of 75% of its water, because of the diversion of upstream rivers that are used for cotton plantation. It use to be the 4th largest lake in the world. The resulting desertification is accelerating dramatically global warming. High salinity means no more fish. Anthrax and rabbies test were also done in a former island in the sea that is now linked to the shore.... .Uzbekistan.

  • Road side construction between Jomsom and Kagbeni, on the Annapurna Trek, along the Kali Gandaki river valley, lower Mustang..Porter named Min Tamang, 23 years old has a walking (mobile) shop. In 2010, he made between 4000 to 5000 rupees profit. Few years ago, he made up to 12000 rupees profit. He supposedly carries up to 90 kg at the beginning of his trip, when he starts from Beni. He walks all the way to Upper mustang. He is from Dhading district (near Kathmandu) and.is running out of business because of the road construction. He is planning to start a new business from the Manang side, all the way up to Thorong Phedi, on the other side of the Annapurna circuit...Issues and life surrounding the construction of a road on the legendary Annapurna circuit trek in Nepal, which will change the face of tourism in this Himalayan region.

Following its exploitation it briefly boasted the highest per-capita income enjoyed by any sovereign state in the world during the late 1960s and early 1970s..In the 1990s, when the phosphate reserves were partly exhausted the government resorted to unusual measures. Nauru briefly became a tax haven and illegal money laundering centre. From 2001 to 2008, it accepted aid from the Australian government in exchange for housing a Nauru detention centre, with refugees from various countries including Afghanistan and Iraq..Most necessities are imported on the island..Nauru has parliamentary system of government. It had 17 changes of administration between 1989 and 2003. In December 2007, former weight lifting medallist Marcus Stephen became the President.
